Why this site exists...

This space on the inter-webs was created as a way to showcase a few of the images I have taken throughout my years into one single location. There was a time when I had no less than seven websites plus numerous social media accounts to maintain - it was silly. Now that I am no longer in business with my photography, I created a single place on the web where I can showcase the subjects I enjoy photographing these days.

In a past life I Photographed hundreds of weddings, created business headshots, made family memories, and pretty much any form of photography involving people - you won't see much of that here. At the same time I was busy creating school Portraits and Sports Teams collages for 50+ middle-schools and several high schools throughout Southern California.

Now, up in the PNW, I use my camera along with 15+ years of professional experience to frame up selective subjects on my own timeline. Photography as a business can be a nice career, but is definitely more fulfilling for me as a hobby.

"Radio Dispatch, do you know who this is? No, who is this is?"

When it comes to music...

From the earliest moment I can remember, music has always been a part of what drives and motivates me. There are lots of ear-worms who live inside my head that play melodies for me all day long, no matter what I am doing. My love for sounds began in the early 1970’s when my parents bought me a Beatles record while we were living in Spain. It was a double-album called Rock & Roll, which is still in my LP collection, and contains songs like Back in the USSR, Get Back and, Drive my Car. The other sounds I was exposed to at a very early age came from the likes of Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, John Lee Hooker, Neil Diamond, and Little Richard.

My musical tastes shifted me to the Metal & Hard Rock scene starting around 1979-1980. It was also around this time when my mother introduced Blues and Jazz ear-worms into the mix. Then, while in high school, the Punk and Post-Punk created new soundtracks for every day life, and my concert life began. Now, thousands of live gigs under my belt (yes, thousands), and an ear-worm for just about every decade since the 1950's, I still lean heavily on my Metal/Hard-Rock/Punk roots. The vinyl collection in this house is a healthy mix of just about every genre out there, sans a few of today's more popular radio-friendly cacophonies that I just can't stomach, or simply do not understand.

Lastly there are a slew of groups and artists that I obsess over, such as Clutch, Rancid, Minutemen, Firehose, High on Fire, Failure, Murder City Devils, Fear, Motörhead, Fugazi, Hank III, etc., etc., but none have captured my musical heart like Murder By Death has. I have become a self-proclaimed Murder-by-Deathian, and just cannot get enough of this band. Melodi and I started seeing them around 2004 and we have been on board ever since. Mel was hooked immediately, but it took me a few years to put myself into this obsessed category. OK, I'm starting to ramble...

If you want to take a deeper dive into my music obsession, then you can go here.

I'm not much for the Pop World... Gimme Rock-n-Roll!

Wildlife Photography...

This is a brand new world for me, and I am loving it. At this point, I don't own any lenses with a focus range beyond my 70-200mm, so I have been renting a 500mm f/4.0 from time to time to get a little closer to the action.

My favorite subjects so far have been birds, specifically birds of prey. I've been able to capture a few different types of owls, some hawks, a couple falcons, and one or two bald eagles.

Places I frequent to get most of my wildlife photos are my back yard, The Salmon Creek area, and the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

I have about 2,000 bird photos that I've kept... But I am only fond of about 10.

Photos taken while on holiday...

While on holiday, I usually bring my travel tripod, a backpack containing a camera, along with two to three lenses. I also take time to experience the destination, versus making it solely a photography trip. Places on my bucket list are Yosemite National Park, Iceland, Ireland, and Scotland. I would also like to go to the Antarctic one day. A suggestion for travelers... When you visit a place outside of your knowledge, try to blend - don't bring your "culture" with you. Do this and you will experience so much more, and hopefully gain a new perspective.

Some people travel to escape life... I travel so that life does not escape me.

Dogs, dogs, dogs...

I am very lucky to be surrounded by LOTS of dogs, which gives me many opportunities to photograph dogs at play, create Pet Portraits, and document Canine Sports events. Also, Melodi (my Lobster / Life Partner) owns and operates The Civilized Wolf, which is a Pet Supplies and Grooming Studio in downtown Vancouver, WA. Additionally, our Dog Lola plays Flyball and Toss & Fetch year 'round, so yeah... I'm around dogs quite a bit.

Dogs... They are the best invention!
